Church of St. Mary of the Assumption (chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta)

Address Piazza Maria Ausiliatrice, 14031 Grana Monferrato AT, Italia

Highlights

The parish church was built, in a panoramic position, in the late 18th century.

Noteworthy is its elegant bell tower.

Imposing on the town, it can be admired in all its splendor, also thanks to its slender bell tower.

In baroque style, erected between 1771 and 1776 on a previous religious building, of which some tombstones are preserved, the church dominates the landscape. From its churchyard, from which you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the rolling hills of Monferrato, it is accessed through a walnut portal.

The long nave, the vault, the high altar and the choir have nothing to envy the cathedrals. The four Gothic chapels give the name to the districts.

Once near the altar, turning towards the entrance, it is possible to admire the magnificent and majestic pipe organ in pure pond on a walnut balcony.

Moreover, there are works of art by Guglielmo Caccia, known as Moncalvo, Crosio, Alberini, Aliberti and a museum of sacred art, which is unusual around here.

The oldest information on the religious history of the place dates back to the tenth century, in which was also built the small Church of Santa Maria in Monte Pirano, located near the cemetery.
